Birdies for Charity
Friday, February 25 2011

Find a penny, pick it up... RMHC is hoping to find pennies—penny pledges, that is, through the WM Phoenix Open Birdies for Charity program! Pledge  by 1/26 and be entered to win a pair of  tickets to the event 1/31-2/6!

There will be two 'lucky' prize winners! CLICK HERE to make a pledge online and enter the drawings! You must select RMHC #107 as your charity to be entered into the drawings.

You don't need to be a golfer or even a golf fan to participate in the Birdies for Charity program. What is important is that you want to help RMHC continue to provide comfort, support, and a "home-away-from-home" to out-of-town families who have children receiving medical care at a Valley-area hospital.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Pledge one cent or more for every birdie made by the PGA TOUR professionals during tournament play at the 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open, formerly the FBR Open (January 31– February 6).

Every single pledge RMHC collects is directed to RMHC and goes to support the temporary lodging services we provide to families. With an average of 1,500 birdies made during the tournament, your one penny pledge for every birdie made, would amount to $15 for RMHC of Phoenix. A pledge of two cents per birdie would mean $30! As an added bonus, Thunderbirds Charities will match 10% of every pledge we receive. Giving through the Birdies for Charity program is a great way to maximize your donation and it's as easy as 1-2-3!

(1) Simply log onto birdiesforcharityaz.com
(2) Complete the online pledge form and select Ronald McDonald House Charities as your charity.
(3) After the tournament, Thunderbirds Charities will send you a bill for the amount of your pledge. Pay for your pledge and support RMHC!

Visit birdiesforcharityaz.com for additional information. If you wish to submit your pledge via mail, click here to download a PDF pledge form and return to RMHC at 501 E. Roanoke Avenue, Phoenix AZ 85004. Remember our BRC ID#107!

In case you were wondering...What is a Birdie?

Definition: "Birdie" is the term for scoring 1-under par on any individual golf hole. Par, remember, is the expected number of strokes it should take an expert golfer to complete a hole. Golf holes are generally rated as par-3s, par-4s and par-5s, which means that an expert should need three strokes, four strokes and five strokes, respectively, to play those holes.

So a birdie is a very good score on a hole, one that mid-handicappers don't see often and high handicappers rarely see. For recreational golfers, making a birdie is a thing to celebrate!
