House Policies

Ronald McDonald House opens its doors to up to 45 families each day. Which requires a tremendous effort from our staff, volunteers, other families, and very generous community donors. To provide for the comfort and safety of everyone involved, we ask all families to observe the House Rules and Infectious Disease Policy. The Ronald McDonald House reserves the right to ask any family to check out at any time should it be considered necessary to preserve the well-being of the other families in the House.

Infectious Disease Policy

  • If any member of your family has been exposed to a contagious disease in the last month or becomes ill while residing at the House, please notify the Manager on Duty immediately. Many children staying at the House have little to no immunity due to treatment they are receiving and can easily become sick if exposed to other illnesses.
  • Any person with an infection that can be transmitted through the air and cause serious illness, such as chicken pox, measles, influenza, and tuberculosis, may not stay at or visit in the House.
  • Any person exposed to the chicken pox virus within the past 21 days who has never had chicken pox or the chicken pox vaccine may not stay at or visit the House. Any person who has been inoculated with the smallpox vaccine within the past 14 days cannot stay at the House without consultation/clearance of the hospital staff
  • Any guests who contract an illness accompanied by fever during their stay may be asked to leave the House or limit their use of common area rooms in the House.
  • Any person with a known infectious disease, which cannot be transmitted through normal daily activity, may be admitted to the House on a case-by-case basis.
  • Guest or visitors who develop chicken pox during their stay or within 48 hours after leaving the House must notify the manager on duty as soon as a diagnosis is made.
  • Guests are responsible for cleaning any blood or body fluids.
  • Soiled diapers must be placed in plastic bags and disposed of in outside garbage, preferably the trash bins in the alley (ask manager for the alley key to dispose of your diaper trash).
  • Frequent hand washing is very important and strongly encouraged. Guests are responsible for keeping their rooms clean and in good order during their stay.
  • Parents and guardians are responsible for making sure that children are in compliance with all rules.
  • Patient and guest confidentiality will be strictly maintained. House staff must be notified of any diagnosis of infection.
